AINDA OS PERSONAGENS / STILL THE CHARACTERS

Bom…A matriz dos personagens (no início da história) estava encontrada.
Roupas escuras, elegantes, com cartola e com modos elegantes. Um alto e magro, outro gordo e baixo.
Mas restavam algumas dúvidas….Ombros largos ou estreitos???...Calcas ou calções…?
A busca continua...

Well…the essence of the characters (in the beginning) was found…
Dark elegant suits, top hat and dandy gestures. One, tall and thin, the other fat and short.
But some doubts still remained: Narrow or broad shoulders? Trousers or shorts?
The search continues...

ALTERAÇÕES... / SOME CHANGES...

Finalmente o guião está feito. Transformei as duas páginas do conto original num guião descritivo, sem diálogos. E obviamente as diferenças eram várias…
O conto original a acção durante aproximadamente um mês. Resolvi condensar tudo num único dia, da alvorada ao anoitecer. Afinal, não é necessário mais tempo para quem uma tragedia aconteça…
Também enquanto no conto do Mia Couto os palhaços começam a agredir-se sem uma razão aparentemente válida, no guião optei por justificar esta atitude como uma vingança diabólica do duo contra a população da vila. As razões? Bom…isso ainda é segredo.
Mas inspirei-me principalmente no conto “O flautista de Hamelin” versão dos irmãos Grimm. Quem conhece a história não deixará de notar alguns pontos de convergência.
Defini ainda que o duo chegaria à vila, com trajos janotas, não deixando sequer antever o que seriam nem ao que vinham.
Claro que esta alteração ao conto acarretou mais trabalho…

Finally the script was done.
I turned two pages of the original material into a seven pages script with a lot of description and without any dialogues. And of course, the differences were substantial.
I arranged all the events that took place in a month’s time and condensed them into a single day. After all, that’s all it takes for a tragedy to take place…
In Mia Couto’s original tale the two clowns started hitting each other without a valid reason (apparently). I justified their actions as a grotesque vengeance against the local population. The reason for that vengeance? Well…that’s still a secret.
But I can add that the main influence was the folk tale “The Pied Piper of Hamelin”, adapted by the Grimm brothers. Those who know this tale will notice some resemblances.
I also established that the terrible duo would arrive in the village wearing fancy suits, not revealing who they were or what they were after…
This idea of course meant an extra amount of work…
